Virginia Tech continues to be on the forefront of innovation and invention, working in many disruptive technology areas such as the mobile internet (including electronic textiles and wireless medical care), advanced robotics, connected vehicles, 3D printing, autonomous systems, and energy harvesting among other areas of extreme national interest such as cyber security. Karin helps companies navigate the campus and align their needs with the solutions our University can provide to form a mutually beneficial relationship.

Karin builds strategic partnerships with corporations and national foundations that support teaching, research, and service at Virginia Tech. Her focus is to increase the understanding of the collaborative opportunities businesses have to engage with the College of Engineering’s departments, centers (including its Center for Enhancement and Engineering Diversity), faculty, students, and programs.

In the private sector, Karin led the marketing, communications and public relations for a variety of technology companies and worked on executive teams as well as with project engineers and scientists. Her experience ranges from startup to public companies. Karin’s employment history is diverse and includes research and development of fiber optic sensing, instrumentation and advanced materials products; civil engineering services and Geographic Information Systems; and global environmental defense services providing military munitions response and demilitarization solutions.

Karin is a native of Vienna, Virginia, but has called Blacksburg her home for many years. She is a Rotarian and is active in the Roanoke-Blacksburg Technology Council. She holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Radford University.
